      The purpose of sludge conditioning is to pretreat sludge to improve the efficiency of sludge concentration and dehydration, and to improve the properties of sludge in a planned way for economic subsequent treatment.Organic sludge (including primary settling sludge, humus sludge, activated sludge and digestion sludge) is the suspension of organic matter particles as the main body, the particle size is uneven and very small, has colloidal characteristics, compressibility, filtration ratio impedance value is also large, so the filtration and dehydration performance is poor.Generally speaking, the specific impedance value of sludge for mechanical dehydration is between (0.1 ~ 0.4)×109S2/g, which is more economical, but the specific impedance value of all kinds of sludge is greater than this value.Therefore, in order to improve the filtration and dewatering performance of sludge, it is necessary to conduct conditioning.

Sludge conditioning methods include washing, dosing (chemical adjustment), heat treatment and freezing melting.In recent years, polymer coagulants have been widely used. In the past, washing method and adding method with inorganic coagulants such as lime and ferric salt were used as main additives.In the reuse of sludge as fertilizer, it is beneficial to adopt freezing melting to prevent the decomposition of the active components.When the waste heat of liquefied petroleum gas is available, the freeze melting method is more advantageous.Sludge conditioning process must be selected from the characteristics of the sludge, dehydration process, whether there is waste heat available and the relationship with the whole treatment, disposal system and other aspects of comprehensive consideration.
