The mud pump is a machine that delivers flushing fluid such as mud or water to the borehole during drilling. Mud pump is an important part of drilling machinery and equipment. Its main function is to inject the mud into the well with the drill bit during the drilling process, cooling the drill bit, cleaning the drill tool, cementing the well wall, driving drilling, and bringing the cuttings back to the ground after drilling. In the common positive circulation drilling, the mud pump transfers the surface flushing medium-clean water, mud or polymer flushing fluid under a certain pressure, through the high-pressure hose, faucet and the center hole of the drill string to directly send it to the bottom of the drill bit. The purpose of cooling the drill bit, removing the cutting debris and transporting it to the surface. Commonly used mud pumps are piston type or plunger type. The crankshaft of the pump is rotated by the power machine. The crankshaft drives the piston or plunger to reciprocate in the pump cylinder through the crosshead. Under the alternate action of suction and discharge valves, the purpose of pressure delivery and circulation of flushing fluid is realized.

Mud pump performance parameters
The two main parameters of mud pump performance are displacement and pressure. The displacement is calculated by the number of liters discharged per minute. It is related to the diameter of the hole and the required speed of the flushing fluid from the bottom of the hole, that is, the larger the hole diameter, the greater the required displacement. The up-and-back speed of the flushing fluid is required to flush the cuttings and rock dust cut by the drill bit from the bottom of the hole in time, and carry them to the surface reliably. When drilling geological cores, the upward and backward speed is generally about 0.4 to 1 m/min. The pressure of the pump depends on the depth of the borehole, the resistance of the channel through which the flushing fluid passes, and the nature of the flushing fluid delivered. The deeper the borehole, the greater the pipeline resistance and the higher the pressure required. As the diameter and depth of the borehole change, the pump displacement is required to be adjusted at any time. In the pump mechanism, there is a gearbox or hydraulic motor to adjust its speed to achieve the purpose of changing the displacement. In order to accurately grasp the changes in the pressure and displacement of the pump, a flow meter and a pressure gauge should be installed on the mud pump, so that the driller can understand the operation of the pump at any time. At the same time, the pressure change can judge whether the condition in the hole is normal to prevent accidents in the hole. .
Mud pump classification
Mud pumps are divided into two types, single-acting and double-acting. Single-acting mud pumps only complete one suction and drainage action in one cycle of piston reciprocating motion. The double-acting mud pump completes two suction and drainage actions every reciprocation.
